Basement Dreams...

We have lived in our home for a little over 3 years now, hard to believe how fast time has gone. We have an unfinished basement and I haven't been too interested in finishing it because I feel like I can barely keep up with the existing housework. The designer in me now wants to finish the basement because I have lots of ideas floating around my mind..

When we were first designing our home, I had dreams of doing high gloss white cement floors throughout our whole main floor. My dreams were crushed when I went to get a bid and found out how labor intense they would be to do on a second level.. I didn't think about how heavy the floors would be and how we would need a bunch of reinforcement to hold the weight:( It would have cost lots of money to pull off the look!

My dreams could now be a potential reality on a basement floor with the existing concrete. I know cement sounds cold to do in a basement, I would have to go heavy on the rugs!

As soon as I laid eyes on this bathroom, I fell in love with the style. I wouldn't change a thing. I would love to go after this same look for the downstairs bath..Could you die over that tile, mid-century style vanity and over sized mirrors?

I love to workout from home and think having a home gym would be ideal. Somewhere I could store all my fitness equipment and not run into furniture or toys while exercising sounds pretty nice:)

I want to add a kitchen on a smaller scale, doing something a little more masculine involving brass, metallic and wood sound really appealing right now!

So these are my ideas and they could all change next week because that's what happens when your taste changes weekly:) I hope we get started soon, I will share all the details as we go along!

Basements are really difficult to decorate because of lighting and they've always felt like such a drag to me. I can understand how you'd put this one on the back burner and finish other projects in the house. I love your plans and can't wait to see how you implement them. Good luck!
