Are you having a design dilemma? I want to hear from you!

I am in the process of helping a client remodel her home. One area of concern was what to do above the fireplace. This room dreams to have more of a sophisticated vibe, I just know it:) I thought of a few ideas and then had one specific idea that really clicked. I was thinking that this two story wall really needs something to add architectural interest and to break up the wall space.
This family room connects to the kitchen so it gets a lot of usage. My first thought was to find a mirror that was to scale with the tall wall space and also to reflect light throughout the room to make things appear more bright and open.  I always go back to adding some sort of wall paneling and trim work, it's my secret design tip that I always suggest to clients. Moldings are a easy way to add drama and step things up a notch.
I like to find images to validate in my mind and to explain to the client what I am visualizing. Luckily, Houzz never disappoints and I was able to find an image to help explain my thoughts.

I thought that bulking up the molding around the mantle and framing in a tall mirror above the firplace with decorative molding and adding shadow box molding above the door and the window to the right of the fireplae would make all the difference and would add so much of a "wow" factor to this room.

My client loves the idea and soon we will begin to transform this space. Can't wait to share with you the details of this makeover!

What a great idea! Adding a tall mirror and molding around the mirror will create so much drama and presence!
