Before & After: From drab to fab...

Recently, I blogged about this picture wall I created for a friend,  I just finished styling the rest of her living room. The "before" picture is from the listing when they first bought their bungalow. This room has been a work in progress and a completed project worth waiting for. My friend already has good taste to begin with she just needed a second pair of eyes to pull this living room together and create a plan. The dark brick on the fireplace and the brown paint really brought down the mood in this room. Isn't it amazing the wonders that a can of white paint can do for a space, if in doubt, paint it white.

You know by now that I am a huge fan of wainscot, I love that the wainscot was added to the main focal wall to add architectural interest and create texture. The most interesting rooms always involve a unique combination of textures that can include flooring, walls, furniture, artwork and decor. This room is a good example of creating just the right balance of all of the above. I love the mixture of texture and pattern in this space, when you put the two together, it is a great way to give your room interesting depth and a personal approach to your favorite styles.

Lately, my new favorite trend is layering rugs. Layering rugs with pattern can be tricky, I suggest going with a natural material to use as your base rug such as a jute or rattan and layering it with a smaller, patterned rug. If you are in love with a rug but it doesn't quite cover the space, try using this trick to cover the difference.

I had a lot of fun pulling this room together! If you are interested in my design services, I can help out as much or as little as you would like. Contact me at stacichavez@ymail.com for more information!

I love that people love the floral wingbacks and i've been wanting to re-upholster them for years :) maybe i just need to let that go....and lets be honest staci, i have been copying things you've done in your home and homes of others with any project i've done in my house, not that they've turned out as classy as your work. I can only credit it all back to you. In the words of REO Speedwagon, "You're the Inspiration"! I really love it. Even more after living with it for the past few days. Thank you Thank you again.
