I went over to my friends house a while back for a consultation. I gave her some suggestions and of course I suggested adding wainscot to her tall spacious walls and painting them white. Obviously white paint would help to to break up her monochromatic walls and brighten the space.
We pulled up a picture on pinterest that had the same lines as the planking on the staircase. The staircase is visible from the family room so we felt like there needed to be some dimension added to the tall walls.
It is amazing how wainscot really breaks up a space and adds instant architecture and creates such a custom feel. Wainscot has a way of making a room feel larger than it is. I also suggested she add some wainscot to her front room to add visual interest since it is the first room you see when you walk through the front door.
A few weeks later, I went over to see the progress. They had really ran with several of my suggestions and then came up with their own ideas as well. I love the design they chose for the front room. Also, how they integrated the framed doorway with the crown molding and pillars. It flows so nicely with the wainscot in the room!

I love to see a good before and after that involves paneling!

That giant wall looks so much better! I'd love to do something like that. We will have to see.

So impressed! What a difference wainscoting makes! It really makes the pretty iron railing pop!
